Aim and Scope[edit]
This is a WikiProject in the Getty Library at the Getty Research Institute (part of the J. Paul Getty Trust) to create and enhance Wikidata items related to information in materials from the library’s Whitney and Lee Kaplan Collection of African American Visual Culture. Staff in the Published Materials Cataloging and Metadata Section will share artist data from the collection materials with the aim both to integrate ongoing Wikidata contributions with day-to-day cataloging of the collection and to inform future implementations of the workflow model. The pilot may be extended to include other collections acquired as part of Getty’s African American Art History Initiative.
Timeline[edit]
- March 31, 2023 - Held internal Wikidata workshop.
- May 4, 2023 - Developed workflow to create Wikidata items as part of day-to-day cataloging.
- July 20, 2023 - Completed reconciliation of artist names in Kaplan Collection inventory with Wikidata using OpenRefine.
