So. A list of errors in Wikipedias that I cannot correct due to language issues. I'm going to write them down here in case there's someone who can correct them or request their correction. Of course, it is open to everyone to add those that are found and are not able to correct. If this is not the right place for this list, move it to where it belongs. When the error is corrected, please add « Checked». You can use the discussion page to discuss the proposals if necessary. Thanks.
Several Wikipedias[edit]
- Lucius Calpurnius Piso (Q709811) «Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesoninus». It seems that, although he belonged to the Caesonini branch, he didn't use that cognomen. «PIR2 C 0289». In fact, Pontifex is used to distinguish him from his namesake Augur. So, his name is «L.Calpurnius Piso» or «L.Calpurnius Piso Pontifex».
- Gaius Maecenas (Q8833) «Gaius Cilnius Maecenas». Cilnius was not part of the Maecenas nomenclature.
- Done on FRWP ; I kept the old name however as it still frequently used. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 11:10, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Gaius Silius (Q14852482) «Gaius Silius Aulus Caecina Largus». Recently, it has been checked that there are actually two of them: «Gaius Silius» and «Aulus Caecina Largus».
- Quintus Aelius Tubero (Q950770) and Quintus Aelius Tubero (Q2123334) : Pauly's give them as separate person RE:Aelius 156 and RE:Aelius 157 ; they are kept separate on DE, NL, RU and UKWP, but the others Wikipedia have them fused. I don't know if later scholarship effectively make them one and the same. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 10:47, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Silanus (Q1247356) : variously spelled either Dulius Silanus or Decimus Julius Silanus. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 09:31, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Comment In deWiki, which has Duilius, it even says that Duilius is a mistake (!?). Prosopographia Imperii Romani (Q879753) says that Duilius "recte fortasse" D. Iulius. --Romulanus (talk) 10:04, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Comment that seems plausible, except that that we only knew of Decimii Iunii, not Iulii. Anyway, there is a textual problem, we won't be able to solve it. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 18:03, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Lucius Livineius Regulus (Q11932037) : problem with the praenomen, either none, Lucius or Marcus. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 18:03, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Alfenus Varus (Q1241376) and Publius Alfenus Varus (Q50672046): some Wikipedia (at least FR and PL) are confused about the pair or have them conflated in a single article. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 19:27, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Clodia (Q16542257) : not a single wiki agree on how to spell her name. DPPR gave her as Clodia. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 17:08, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
- Comment Clodia Tertia (Q12899377), Clodia (Q1102155) and Clodia (Q16542257). Misconceptions regarding nomenclature. All Clodias without cognomen: [1], [2] and [3]. --Romulanus (talk) 11:43, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Sextus Julius Caesar (Q615040) and Sextus Julius Caesar (Q2092365) «Sex.Iulius Caesar». The same person for modern authors.
- Gaius Julius Caesar (Q73354) and Gaius Julius Caesar (Q857045) «C.Iulius Caesar». The same person. In addition, there are doubts regarding the reading of the name. Most modern authors give C.Acilius Gaius Acilius (Q857021), so the former would also have to be merged with this. He's most likely a prosopographical phantom. More accurate: Gaius Julius Caesar (Q73354) = Lucius Julius Caesar (Q12119007) and Gaius Julius Caesar (Q857045) = Gaius Acilius (Q857021). An imbroglio.
- Aemilia Scaura (Q380857), Antonia Hybrida Minor (Q13534258), Aurelia (Q232725), Cornelia Africana Major (Q5171151), Cornelia Metella (Q270384), Cornelia (Q2126654), Porcia (Q255448). No cognomen. In Antonia's case, Hybrida is actually an insult to her father, although in modern sources it is used as his cognomen.
- Attica (Q152626). No Pomponia.
- Gnaeus Sergius Fidenas Coxo (Q1243288). Gnaeus is now preferred to Gaius.
- Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus (Q737083). Most Wikipedias add the cognomen Capitolinus, but this Quinctius did not use it.
- Atia (Q231696). Very fantasy and imaginative names in most Wikipedias. Only Atia or Atia maior at least.
- Titus Vettius Scato (Q4010545). Praenomen was Publius acording to DPRR. --Romulanus (talk) 16:54, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Pacuvius Labeo (Q329274). Praenomen was Pacuvius acording to DPRR. --Romulanus (talk) 22:23, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
- Cornelia (Q2530944). Her father was Lentulus Marcellinus, she would not have had any cognomen related to Scipio.*Treker (talk) 06:59, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

caWiki[edit]
- Marcus Plautius Silvanus (Q20005572) Marc Plauci Silvà (cònsol sufecte any 68). A prosopographical phantom from Smith Dictionary, but written as if it were true.
- Decimus Junius Brutus (Q11917887) «Dècim Juni Brut» and Marcus Junius Pera (Q11935163) «Marc Juni Brut (magistrat)». prosopographical phantom (Q64643615). They are Decimus Junius Pera (Q324608) and «M.Iunius D.f.D.n. Pera» (I couldn't find the item) respectively.
- Gaius Flavius Hemicillus (Q11923563). «Gai Flavi (prefecte)». He is probably also the monetalis and the legatus «C.Flavius Hemicillus».
- Gaius Marius (Q11923614) «Gai Mari l'Altre». He is not mentioned in RE or Broughton.
- Comment I wonder if that's not a duplicate of Gaius Marius the Younger (Q462978). It effectively appears in App. B.C. 1.67, but Hisp. 100 is a reference to Marcus Marius (Q15833814) --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 12:07, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Gaius Atinius Labeo (Q11913301) Catí Labeó. In fact, C.Atilius Labeo, pr. 190 BC [RE 9]; C.Atilius Labeo's namesake, pr. 195 BC [RE 8].
- Lucius Volusius Saturninus (Q675161) Aule Volusi Saturní : called Aulus in CAWP while every other wiki has Lucius. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 15:09, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
- Lucius Bellienus (Q20005172) Luci Anni Bel·liè DPRR gives his name only as Lucius Bellienus. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 19:39, 8 May 2020 (UTC)
- Aulus Manlius Torquatus (Q11951981) Tit Manli Torquat (qüestor) for Smith he is Titus, for DPRR Aulus. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 09:31, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
- Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus Capitolinus (Q1235979) Tit Quint Cincinnat Capitolí (cònsol 388 aC) and Titus Quinctius Cincinnatus Capitolinus (Q20101612) Tit Quint Capitolí considered identical by DPRR, which is following MRR. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 20:18, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- Manius Marcius (Q11935182) w:ca:Marc Marci. Manius according to DPRR. --Romulanus (talk) 15:02, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
frWiki[edit]
- Q24951234 Antonius Plautius. A person who never existed. It seems to be an invention of an IP from people who did exist.
huWiki[edit]
- Lucius Calpurnius Piso Cesoninus (Q334915) Lucius Calpurnius Piso Caesonius (Kr. e. 148). The cognomen is «Caesoninus», nor «Caesonius».
- Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus (Q1164963) Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus (politikus). An invented character mixed with Marcus Calpurnius Bibulus (Q316775) and Lucius Calpurnius Bibulus (Q3655959).
- Marcus Junius Gracchanus (Q1164993) Marcus Junius Graechanus : very probably an OCR mistake for Gracchanus. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 19:03, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Publius Licinius Gallienus (Q1241402) Publius Licinius Gallienus : wasn't able to find anything on this author, I wonder if he isn't the same as Gallienus (Q104475) ; DLL ; Perseus --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 09:01, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
- Marcia (Q1893528) Martia Regina. The nomen is Marcia and she has no cognomen.
itWiki[edit]
- Attus Navius (Q2580021) Atto Navio and Accius Naevius (Q16529771) Attio Nevio : those two seems to be the same ; one should be redirected on ITWP before we can merge them here. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 17:11, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- Publius Carisius (Q3991889) Tito Publio Carisio. I cannot find information on the praenomen Titus, except in some papers by an Italian author. In the Hispanic bibliography it is always Publius Carisius. So I think it is some kind of mistake.
- Hermogenian (Q4895810) Ermogeniano and Aurelius Hermogenes (Q3629807) Aurelio Ermogene : others wiki considers the praefectus Vrbi and the jurist as the same person, but not ITWP. RE, which is linked only to the latter (!), is silent on his juridical activities. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 10:03, 5 May 2020 (UTC)
laWiki[edit]
- Gaius Vibius Rufus (Q767986) Gaius Vibius Rufus Rufinus. Only C.Vibius Rufus.
nlWiki[edit]
- Publius Marius (Q2425237) Publius Marius Celsus. It is indicated that he was consul in the year 62 and consul suffectus in the year 69. Two persons are amalgamated here: Publius Marius (Q12291712) «Publius Marius», cos. 62 without cognomen and Aulus Marius Celsus (Q772869) «Aulus Marius Celsus», suff. 69, with a different praenomen.
- Claudia (Q17428083) Claudia Pulchra maior. In fact, there's no telling who the older sister was. And, as with so many other Roman Republic women items, the cognomen is spurious.
ruWiki[edit]
- Gaius Sentius Saturninus Vetulo (Q89017015) Гней Сентий Сатурнин Ветулон. He's Gaius, not Gnaeus.
ukWiki[edit]
- Decimus Junius Silanus (Q15733188) w:uk:Децим Юній Сілан (сенатор). I can't find information about this person. The source ukWiki provides doesn't mention him. Unless it's a duplicate of Decimus Junius Silanus (Q3021006).
