Because the aim of the project is to create medical content here, there is an emphasis on quality. The moderation of content does not occur at a single stage or "gate".

There are three key stages to notice:

  1. Which articles get onto the focus list.
  2. Which articles are selected from the focus list to be ingested into the ScienceSource wiki.
  3. Which criteria based on MEDRS are applied to candidate facts, that have passed human review.

For (1), recent additions to the focus list are all instances of review article (Q7318358). For (2), there is now a filter excluding suspect publishers. For (3), besides criteria from MEDRS and filtering for retractions (in next version), articles in open-access journals are tested to see that the journal has Directory of Open Access Journals (Q1227538),

The three stages are all regulated by SPARQL queries, so by definite criteria applied to items. Doing everything at once would defeat the idea that the MEDRS algorithm needs testing, on "real data".
