Discussion
[edit]- Support --CristianCantoro (talk) 21:24, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support The page at https://www.dictionaryapi.com/products/api-collegiate-dictionary reveals the dictionary has approximately 225 000 words and also has an API that can be queried. Edit: Instead of the word 'entry' would it not be better to use the word 'word'? Infrastruktur (talk) 16:09, 4 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! Re the number of words, I am just not sure if the "Collegiate" edition is the one exposed to the public, as distinct from a premium (paid) service. But I don't think precision here, in the property request is important. Re using 'word' in the property name, I don't think that would be better, because some of the entries in the dictionary are for short phrases, such as this one. Comment This seems like it would be an ID property. Right? — The Erinaceous One 🦔 05:45, 8 October 2022 (UTC)
- Question @Ijon: Is there a reason you picked String rather than external-id datatype here? ArthurPSmith (talk) 01:15, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- No, I just didn't remember external-id was a thing. Asaf Bartov (talk) 09:39, 14 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support I've updated the ID's to be the more specific ones provided by the site – The preceding unsigned comment was added by ArthurPSmith (talk • contribs).
- @Ijon, CristianCantoro, Infrastruktur, The-erinaceous-one, ArthurPSmith: Done as Merriam-Webster online dictionary entry (P11130). UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 17:45, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- thank you! Why isn't it showing as a link in L4177, for instance? Asaf Bartov (talk) 20:31, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- The links take up to 24 hours to become active. They are active now, but see the property discussion for several issues that need to be addressed. UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 22:38, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you. The link does indeed display now, but it is, as you've noted on the talk page, a broken link, because the fragment part's hash character is escaped. See my comments on the property talk page. Asaf Bartov (talk) 23:48, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
