Motivation
[edit]We have "A Church Near You" for Anglican churches but no global index to Catholic churches, so these have to be done by Archdiocese, I think. This is a start and will be a test case for other ADs. No idea whether it's properly formed, but I did what I could. Rodhullandemu (talk) 15:15, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Support Systematic coverage of churches would be useful. Jheald (talk) 20:20, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
- Support, an important property for Catholicism.--Arbnos (talk) 18:56, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
- This property is marked as ready but the examples are not ready. Only the first example has an item in Wikidata. The datatype should be external identifier, not URL. There needs also to be a subject item created for it for the source website The Archdiocese of Liverpool. This proposal still needs additional work. - @UWashPrincipalCataloger: Have fixed the examples and thanks for making the correctins. As to your last point, does Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool (Q1364855) not suffice? I'm not clear what you mean. Thanks. Rodhullandemu (talk) 09:42, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Rodhullandemu: Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool (Q1364855) is for the archdiocese as a corporate entity. They issue the identifiers and maintain them, but the source website for these identifiers is a different entity. The website of the archdiocese is the proper subject item and applicable stated in value for this property, not the corporate body. For example, if you are going to use some information (for example, street address, or deacon) taken from the website and you want to include a reference for the source of the information, it's the Archdiocese website that is the reference source, not the Archdiocese itself. - @UWashPrincipalCataloger: OK, we now have The Archdiocese of Liverpool (Q106627190) but I've no idea if that's correct. They say you need a degree in computer science to understand this stuff; well, I have one, but I'm none the wiser. Rodhullandemu (talk) 17:07, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Rodhullandemu: Great! I've enhanced the item with a number of statements and added the item here in the proposal for subject item and applicable "stated in" value. I'll create the property for you now. :) UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 19:31, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

- @Rodhullandemu, Jheald, Arbnos: Done as Archdiocese of Liverpool parish ID (P9489). UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 20:01, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
- @UWashPrincipalCataloger: Thank you very much, but I was expecting to see an automated link to the website using the ID as a parameter. It has to be added manually as a qualifier which I think misses the point. Rodhullandemu (talk) 10:13, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- @Rodhullandemu: There will be an automated link. It just takes sometimes 24 hours or more for the links to become operative after a property is created. Do not add URL to an identifier statement, that is not a correct use of the URL property. URL points to the location of a resource. The church is not a resource. (A website, an online book, an online video, are examples of resources). If you add this new property to additional items, the automatic link should now be functional. If not, it will be by tomorrow no doubt. Oh, and FYI, once a property has been created, discussion should be done on the property's discussion page, not in the proposal.
