Parentheses in item labels[edit]

Hello. You don't need to add parenthetical information in the main label of an item. In fact, it is much discouraged because it is not the official (or even common) name. Unlike Wikipedia, item labels are not required to be unique. The only constraint is that the combination of label and description are unique for that language. The item aliases are the best location for imported names from Wikipedia.

If you want to add clarifying information, you are welcome to add it into the item description or by adding further properties to the item. --William Graham (talk) 22:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for the comment. I'm fairly new to Wikidata, so this is great to know. I'll refrain from doing so in the future. --OrdinaryJosh (talk) 03:22, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
