Melodi Grand Prix 2020[edit]

Hi, just wondering. Why did you move the Norwegian article for Melodi Grand Prix 2020 over to a new item (Q81280725)? There was already an item for MGP 2020 that I created last autumn (Q62266773). This new one should have been Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 – instead of switching the first one I made. This creates a lot of fuzz and confusion for the already established MGP 2020 articles. --Pdstud1975 (talk) 21:00, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pdstud1975: Just thought it could be easier, also because that Item already existed. The item you created was also linking to pages which talk about Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 (which now isn't much more than MGP 2020). Anyway I don't think it created any problem. Thinking about it, your solution would've been much easier but it wouldn't change that much I guess.--Kaga tau (talk) 21:18, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it created extra work for me, as the original item was created specifically for the 2020 edition of Melodi Grand Prix, and not for Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. The original descriptions in Norwegian Bokmål and Norwegian Nynorsk also had to be changed, and I had to recreate them in the new item – which is just unnecessary work. This is also about a Norwegian contest, which is important for Norwegian WP and not so much for the English version. So the Norwegian should be counting, and the English «Norway in the ESC 2020» should have had its own item. However, I have created separate items for the 2021 edition, so this dosen't happen again. --Pdstud1975 (talk) 21:49, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pdstud1975: It is extra work for everyone, because every item of this type should be divided in separated items, one for the selection and another one for the participation in Eurovision. No.wiki doesn't have to count more or less than the others, no topic is owned by any version of Wikipedia.--Kaga tau (talk) 21:54, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If course, I didn't mean that the Norwegian WP was more important than other WP projects. English is not my mother tongue, so it is hard to be precise. What I was trying to say is that there should be made specific items for Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest (YEAR) and connect the existing English articles to them – instead of moving the Melodi Grand Prix articles (German, Hungarian, Norwegian, etc) like you did here. So for earlier years, please create Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest (YEAR) as the new item – instead of duplicating Melodi Grand Prix (YEAR). Since the English Norway in the ESC articles – for some strange reason – are connected to the Melodi Grand Prix items. I don't know why. --Pdstud1975 (talk) 22:07, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pdstud1975: As I already said, I moved the links to the other Items because it was only about MGP, while the Item you create was a mix of them, so I thought it wouldn't change anything which one I should have moved. In addition enwiki is one of the few which, in this and other cases, has two separate pages about the selection and the participation.--Kaga tau (talk) 22:12, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understand why you did it. And of course it is ok, but when I have started making articles (like MGP 2020 and 2021) I have also created items on Wikidata specifically for the MGP contest article. And some time later, the English WP has created an article about Norway in the ESC 2020 and connected it to the MGP item I created. That's why I found it a bit strange when you changed the original MGP 2020 item into a Norway in the ESC 2020, when this was specifically made for the MGP. In my head it should be the opposite way around. There are very few articles on the various Melodi Grand Prix contest on English WP (most are just about Norway in the ESC (YEAR), but this year there are two separate articles: both MGP 2020 and Norway in the ESC 2020. I just wanted to hear the reason for it, and now I know, so thanks! I can take a look on previous years to find a good way to separate the MGP and the Norway in the ESC articles. Have a great night! --Pdstud1975 (talk) 22:24, 14 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
