[edit]- The Edit-a-thon Dashboard: What is it? How do I join it? Where is it?
- What: The Dashboard is a course/workshop/edit-a-thon management platform. It works with both Wikipedia and Wikidata. It neatly tracks edits for the duration of a workshop or program. It also can contain trainings, resources, and tips. It is customizable and presents data that may be otherwise difficult to find

The Project
[edit]- What do I edit?
- For this program we are utilizing data sets for the Michigan Notable Books program and the Indiana Authors Awards to create and edit items for authors and books, and add the property "award received" for books receiving these awards.

Properties
[edit]Wikidata calls predicates properties. Properties are relationships that describe the connection between items (subjects) and their values (objects). Listed below are some commonly used properties for describing authors and books.
Author Properties examples
[edit]- occupation (P106): occupation of a person; see also "field of work" (Property:P101), "position held" (Property:P39)
- writer (Q36180): person who uses written words to communicate ideas and to produce literary works
- novelist (Q6625963): writer of novels
- playwright (Q214917): person who writes plays
- poet (Q49757): person who writes poetry
- notable work (P800): notable scientific, artistic or literary work, or other work of significance among subject's works
- Hamlet (Q41567): tragedy by William Shakespeare
- award received (P166): award or recognition received by a person, organization or creative work

- Pulitzer Prize for Fiction (Q833633): American award for distinguished works of fiction, since 1948

- nominated for (P1411): award nomination received by a person, organisation or creative work (inspired from "award received" (Property:P166))

Book Properties examples
[edit]- author (P50): main creator(s) of a written work (use on works, not humans); use P2093 (author name string) when Wikidata item is unknown or does not exist
- publisher (P123): organization or person responsible for publishing books, periodicals, printed music, podcasts, games or software
- publication date (P577): date or point in time when a work was first published or released
Data Models
[edit]A data model is a set of common properties we use to describe things on Wikidata. Data models are not prescriptive. Often the best way to learn how to model items is to look at existing well-modeled items. Here is a small list to get you started.
