Structure
[edit]Properties are used for various purposes on WD:
Identifier
[edit]- see main page: identifier
Identifiers are properties used to attach values that the world uses to identify the subject. The name of a person, designation for an aircraft model, and ISBN number for a book are all examples of identifiers. Most of the authority control properties are identifiers.
Classifier
[edit]- see main page: classifier
Classifiers are properties used to establish a subject's position in the overall taxonomy of Wikidata. instance of (P31) and subclass of (P279) are the primary classifiers in the WD system, though several topic-specific classes are also used.
Relator
[edit]- see main page: relator
Relators are properties used to establish a subject's relationship with another item. Sometimes these can be reflexive, and other times not.
Descriptor
[edit]- see main page: descriptor
Descriptors are properties used to attach values that define the subject. Measurements using quantities with units constitute a large body of these properties. There is some overlap with relators as for example describing an aircraft as being a biplane will also establish a relationship between that aircraft and the concept 'biplane'.
