Date of birth of Polish people

Summary by Matlin

As you can see, i reverted these batch, in edit description there are an url to batch. But importing values from Wiki's is widely used, it is especially good from plwiki, which have "wersje przejrzane".

Hello Matlin,

You have been importing dates of birth for (Polish) people, based on the Polish article, like here. Clearly, this was not the date of birth of this person, but the date of decease. Reasons for these edits to attract attention:

  1. The year: only very few people get into Wikidata within a year after their birth. Those who do are merely princes and princesses;
  2. The date of birth is the same as the date of death (which was already in Wikidata): this would make it even harder to get into Wikipedia/Wikidata;
  3. Wikipedia is, as had been mentioned earlier on this page, a very poor source for Wikidata. Please try and find better (independent!) sources;
  4. The Polish text 'zm.' just before the date, does mean 'died'. 'ur.' stands for born.

The 2020-birthes were easy for me to track. I don't see how many other people you gave a date of birth like this.

Sincerely, ~~~~

Thanks for undoing the batch and for being more careful when adding dates.

'wersje przejrzane' does make the information a bit more reliable, but it would be great if Wikidata would have external sources, so people would not complain about Wikipedia being used as a source. They think that Wikipedia, being freely editable, can never be a reliable source. Opinions about the reliability of Wikipedia vary, but lets try to make Wikipedia and Wikidata as good as possible.
