Template documentation

Translates the name of a person's profession or quality into user's preferred language. See template:occupation/list to see words that are translated into your language.

This template has been copied from Commons as a guide for future development for Commons. Not all functionality and not all languages supported by the original template may be available. For further information and discussion see the talk page.

Usage

You may find some explanations of difficult occupation names on the template talk page.

To prevent double entries, confusion between British or American spelling and all kinds of “gender trouble”, we supply alternative versions of parameter #1 for those entries which have notable (!) spelling or gender variants in the English language. Therefore, you can equally supply “actor” or “actress”, “monk” or “nun”, “draftsman” or “draughtsman” or “draftsperson” or “draughtsperson” for parameter #1. These variants are listed in italics below. Anyway, the output will honour the gender information you specify using parameter #2.
