Founded 1837 or 1841

[edit]

@Einar Myre, Jeblad: et al. SNL claims Sortland was founded 1837 and Juvkam has no mention of Sortland before 1963. That contrasts to nowiki who claims it was split from Hadsel in 1841. Since the source here was very poor, I replaced it with the data from SNL. Feel free to change back if you find a good source. lokalhistoriewiki.no also says 1841, but I have no idea how good of a source that is. 62 etc (talk) 06:57, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have absolutely no idea, but…
“Da Formannskapslovene ble vedtatt i 1837, var Sortland en del av Hadsel prestegjeld, og ble dermed en del av Hadsel formannskapsdistrikt. Sortland ble i 1841 skilt ut fra Hadsel som eget formannskapsdistrikt (senere herred, i dag kommune).”
This is about an administrative subdivision before municipalities, so it is quite obvious why it isn't mentioned in the SSB publication. Jeblad (talk) 00:07, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
FYI, 62 etc, snl.no is somewhat inaccurate, please see [[1]], pp 1, 228-229, which is a very good source. The book is about Hadsel, but describes the start of Sortland kommune quite well. Sortland was not happy with being part of Hadsel and broke out in 1841. The "kommune" Hadsel including both Hadsel and Sortland was founded 1. january 1838. Formannskapslovene that created Hadsel herred (kommune) was passed 1837, but the new "formannskapskretser" was established as of 1. january 1838. --Dyveldi (talk) 10:16, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
