Pronunciation[edit]

@Gymnicus: pronunciation is for the lexicographical data. German pronunication should go in Sand (L866365), and Santali pronunication to lexeme page of Santali word etc. 2001:7D0:81DB:1480:4C42:A555:A3DF:CED2 14:27, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't agree with this statement. Property pronunciation audio (P443) is still approved for both Wikibase item (Q29934200) and Wikibase form (Q54285143). In addition, I personally think this approval makes sense for both species. Because how do I, as a simple Wikidata user with no idea about the query system and Wikidata search, come to the lexeme Sand (L866365)? Actually not at all. That's why such a user can't find the pronunciation and that would be a fatal mistake. --Gymnicus (talk) 20:54, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Gymnicus: see Property talk:P443. This property may be considered somewhat fine in Q-items of places, people and alike that have some native name, and if most languages are expected to use the same name for item subject. This is not the case here, the sand concept is not associated to any particular language/pronunciation. The same way you could add 100s of other pronunciations here, each pronuncation really being for some subject (different words) that is different from Q-item subject (concept), and for each pronunication statement you should specify what subject other than item subject is it actually for. That messy. Lexemes are separate from concepts with a reason, please see further information here: Wikidata:Lexicographical data. 2001:7D0:81DB:1480:2D36:82BE:23C6:564A 06:53, 11 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As already said, the property restriction still states that it can also be used for Wikibase item (Q29934200). As long as that's the case, I'll use it that way because it's not a broken edit. --Gymnicus (talk) 10:30, 13 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Huh, you are not suggesting this property, or any other property using this broad constraint, should be use used in every Q-item, are you? To me it's quite obvious it should be furthered determined in which items is particular property actually relevant. This usually isn't determined by constraints that can only roughly rule out some bad use cases. As mentioned, property talk has some hints on in which Q-items this property might be actually relevant. 2001:7D0:81DB:1480:B940:E0AA:4BC6:D600 14:31, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
