Instances?

[edit]

So individual classes of terrains should be subclasses or instances? If subclasses then almost all these should be changed, if instances then what to do with "real" instances like Q278509? --Infovarius (talk) 23:51, 15 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to me that this should be actually a metaclass. So its instances should be entities like mountain (Q8502) and not like Mount Everest (Q513). "Real instances" would be instances of a certain landform, not a landform itself. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 08:42, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't object in the whole. But what if there are no item about a certain landform (and moreover it is hard to classify), like Q278509? --Infovarius (talk) 22:18, 27 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. And at least in English this is definitely used for concrete forms (like here). Individual classes should be subclasses, not instances. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 07:31, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, done. --Infovarius (talk) 10:36, 30 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Based on this discussion and an examination of the superclasses of this class, I'm going to adjust some of the instances of this class (e.g., glacier) to subclasses. Peter F. Patel-Schneider (talk) 13:28, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done once more. --Infovarius (talk) 12:31, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
