I know that Russian language is widely spoken in Belarus and I know majority of its inhabitants are using Russian version of their names and surnames in everyday life. The problem is that we should not use more than one surname in parameter family name (P734), because some infoboxes in Wikipedia are extracting name and surname from Wikidata. Every Wikipedia chapter desides for itself how to show names of Belarusians - in Belarusian or in Russian. This item: Astapenka (Q25366036) informs that the surname belongs to someone of Belarusian nationality but please notice that it shows in Russian for Russian language users. So it should be perfectly fine for Russian users - this surname will be shown in Russian. So why do we need Astapenka (Q25366036) at all? Because for example Polish Wikipedia is showing all Belarusians in Belarusian version of their name and surname. So, for Polish language user this surname will be shown in Belarusian.
However, if Anatol Astapenka (Q13028434) is of Russian nationality (it means if he heclares himself as Russian), he should, of course, have the surname in Russian only. However, I don't see any source proving this.

He lived in a country with Russian as the main language (USSR) so he had official Russian naming "Анатолий Владимирович Остапенко". Also, as I've said, he has works in Russian, so there is doubt that his mother tongue was not Russian. I doubt that Russian label in Astapenka (Q25366036) should be "Остапенко", may be "Астапенка" is better (because it declared itself as "belorussian surname"). In this case statement family name (P734) Остапенко would be insufficient for Russian-speaking. --Infovarius (talk) 14:13, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
