Correct identification of this object[edit]
The correct identification of some NGC objects is difficult due to errors and misunderstandings of the original observer and of the astronomers that, during time, made and re-analysed the data.
Use the information of different sources, NGC 2518 has different identifications. Following the prescription of NGC/IC project the object named NGC 2518 is the galaxy PGC 22800, but not also the name NGC 2519!
Source | UGC | PGC | Other NGC | Link | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
NGC/IC project in VizieR (Q1662358) | UGC 4221 | PGC 22800 | --- | [1] | right identification |
NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (Q488563) | UGC 4221 | PGC 22800 | --- | [2] | right identification |
Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) | UGC 4221 | PGC 22800 | NGC 2519 | [3] | right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 2519! |
SIMBAD (Q654724) | UGC 4221 | PGC 22800 | NGC 2519 | [4] | right identification, but wrong assignment to NGC 2519! |
- It would be prudent do not use SIMBAD (Q654724) and Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (Q6709611) databases to recover catalogue names of this object!
