A claim by the heirs of Robert Graetz, a Jewish textiles entrepreneur who died in the Holocaust, for a painting by Lovis Corinth in the collection of Berlin’s Stadtmuseum has been rejected by Germany’s Advisory Commission for Nazi-looted art. (English)

Under the Nazis, Graetz was forced to liquidate his company and sell his Berlin villa to a company run by the SS. His children managed to escape, but Graetz was deported to a concentration camp in 1942 and died. (English)

Robert Graetz (1878–1945) war ein Berliner Textilfabrikant. Seine Kunstsammlung umfasste auch die beiden Gemälde Schmidt-Rottluffs. Als Jude wurde Robert Graetz von den Nationalsozialisten verfolgt und verlor in den Jahren 1939 und 1940 nahezu sein gesamtes Vermögen. Sein Unternehmen („Glass & Graetz“) befand sich seit 1938 in Liquidation und wurde am 18. April 1940 aus dem Handelsregister gelöscht. Zwei Jahre später, am 18. April 1942, wurde Robert Graetz deportiert und ermordet. (German)
