For most conspicuous bravery .and in-domitable resolution in face of heavymachine gun and shell fire.By his initiative and courage this officer,with the assistance of two runners, wasenabled, in the face of great difficulties, tocapture two machine guns, besides twoofficers and seventy-five men.Although wounded in the hand, he con-tinued for five days to hold the positiongained, in spite of heavy shell fire, untileventually relieved by his battalion.By his bravery and prompt action he un-doubtedly succeeded in rounding up a verystrong enemy machine post.
