    The historical marker is located at the base of the bell tower. (English)

    Founded 1679 by Fr. Diego de la Madre de Dios, Agustinian Recollect. Fortified with stone wall; two watchtowers and twenty canons. Attacked by Moros, 23 October 1754, who captured Andres de Jesus y Maria and many people taking refuge therein. Burnt, August, 1881. Reconstructed 1887. Occupied by the Revolutionists, 1898; by the Americans, 1945; turned over to the Filipinos, 1945. (English)
