    Statements

Letter from Robert Bowes to Burghley in which he says he is sceptical about the truth in the confessions and testimony from the King's examination of witches. He said they confessed to abusing God's name and yeilding themselves to evil spirits. He thinks the confessors were 'suborned'. He objects to himself being described by a witch as 'a little black and fatt man with black haire'. He said she got his description wrong so the other information she provided may also be wrong. Also points to John Fean's recanting his testimony at his execution. (English)
