On 31 October 2000 a claim was submitted for the restitution of this painting. This claim was substantially based on facts presented to the Dutch Government's Advisory Committee on the Assessment of Restitution Applications for Items of Cultural Value and the Second World War. In December 2003 the Committee advised the Dutch State Secretary of Education, Culture and Science to reject the claim. In the light of these findings, and based upon research undertaken by the Courtauld Institute of Art Gallery, the Samuel Courtauld Trustees have followed the conclusion of the Advisory Committee and have rejected the claim. The claimant is appealing the Dutch Government's decision and maintains the claim for the restitution of this painting. (English)
