Mod DB game engine ID[edit]
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work
Motivation[edit]
Mod DB is a moding-oriented website, so it usually contains information about engines and frameworks the games built on.
I've wrote a script that fills software engine (P408) based on Mod DB, and, as a result, I have a small matching table between Wikidata items and Mod DB slugs. I'd like to upload it to Wikidata, it feels suitable.

Discussion[edit]
- Support it would help me with Bohemia Interactive (Q890779)'s engines and Godot (Q16972633) games --Poslovitch (talk) 12:10, 18 October 2022 (UTC).
- Support Absolutely, yes. I like the idea of expanding our coverage of engines. Jean-Fred (talk) 12:51, 18 October 2022 (UTC)

- Comment I found out that some of the engines have duplicate entries. For example Irrlicht Engine has: [3] and [4]. Which of them should be used in WD item? Sir Lothar (talk) 11:44, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Probably both. There would be lot of things to thing about. For instance, Mod DB has a separate entry for Unreal Development Kit (Q11252287), which is basically Unreal Engine 3 (Q13156651). Should we distinguish these, too? Facenapalm (talk) 12:00, 19 October 2022 (UTC)

- Support of course, since there are very few databases containing information about game engines and any such database is more than welcome. @Facenapalm: Do you mind if I then create a catalog in Mix'n'Match for the items that haven't been matched yet? Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 01:53, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kirilloparma, I'll be happy if you'll do that. I haven't learnt how to make Mix'n'Match catalogs yet. Facenapalm (talk) 01:58, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Facenapalm: I think that a little later I will create a short video tutorial on how to do it. There is nothing complicated, except for the process of scraping the data and re-scraping in case of catalog update. Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 02:26, 19 October 2022 (UTC)
- Could you make a tutorial for scrabing Fandom wikis? Both the whole site and specific categories only Trade (talk) 02:09, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

- @Facenapalm, Poslovitch, Jean-Frédéric, Zache, Sir Lothar, Wd-Ryan: @WikiSyn: Done: Mod DB engine ID (P11132). Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 22:20, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Kirilloparma, thank you! There's something weird tho, Mod DB engine ID (P11132) for some reason acts like a string, it doesn't create a clickable link (example). Anyone knows what's the issue? Facenapalm (talk) 23:22, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Facenapalm: This is a known issue when a new property is created. The links to external identifiers will be clickable within 24-48 hours (maybe even less), so don't worry if they are not available at the moment. Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 23:48, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Okay, somehow never encountered that until now. Thanks for the reply! Facenapalm (talk) 23:51, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Facenapalm: Yeah, no problem! By the way, the links seem to be working now. You can purge one of the Wikidata items by
?action=purge
command (example) in order to get the formatter URL to be recognized. Regards Kirilloparma (talk) 03:20, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
