Introduction[edit]

The Women's Library LSE Suffrage Interviews project, beginning March 2023, intends to make metadata for the The Suffrage Interviews, otherwise known as Oral evidence on the suffragette and suffragist movements: the Brian Harrison interviews, available on Wikidata to increase the discoverability of this unique collection.

Aim and scope[edit]

Using metadata held by The Women's Library Archives at LSE the project aims to create or update Qids for all the person entities contained in the interviews (interviewees and all the people they talk about) as well as creating Qids for each of the interview recordings.

Project dashboards[edit]

Names data[edit]

All names associated with the project have been given a P5008 statement on the focus list of Wikimedia project The_Women’s_Library_LSESuffrageInterviewsProject

By recording as many names as possible the project potentially brings to light new connections or relationships and widens research possibilities. This list identifies all names that have a connection to the project https://w.wiki/9Bc4.

These names can be further broken down into 4 categories, which will support more detailed research. Determining the category into which each person falls is supported by the data model for Qids representing each individual interview.

  • Category 1: People who were notable in the suffrage movement and have been interviewed about themselves.

https://w.wiki/7y$f (Names in personLabel column)

Category 1 people with a Wikipedia page https://w.wiki/7$zB

Category 1 people with a Wikimedia Commons image https://w.wiki/9Du5 (Note multiple images for some individuals which allows linking to each of the different interviews they gave). For images alone see https://query-chest.toolforge.org/redirect/Z5YTxmwCW0Es2u2kIiiqysuSu4ougSeG6CiaO4C4gCS where you will need to run the query using the blue triangle on the bottom left of the page.

The interview participant is also named as the main subject of the interview - eg suffrage interview with Connie Lewcock
  • Category 2: People who were notable in the suffrage movement and a family member or friend has been interviewed about the notable person.

https://w.wiki/7y$R (Names in subjectLabel column)

Category 2 people with a Wikipedia page https://w.wiki/7$zQ

Category 2 people with an image in Wikimedia Commons https://w.wiki/9Dqx

The person named as the main subject of the interview is not the interview participant – eg suffrage interview with Fiona Billington Greig
  • Category 3: People who were not notable in the suffrage movement themselves, or were on its fringes, but were interviewed about a notable family member or friend.

https://w.wiki/7y$a (Names in personLabel column)

Category 3 people with a Wikipedia page https://w.wiki/7$za

Category 3 people with an image in Wikimedia Commons https://w.wiki/9Dr4

The interview participant is not named as a main subject of the interview - eg suffrage interview with Fiona Billington Greig
  • Category 4: People who have been mentioned during the course of an interview.

https://w.wiki/7ykE (Names in personLabel column)

Category 4 people with a Wikipedia page https://w.wiki/7$zh

Category 4 people with an image in Wikimedia Commons https://w.wiki/9DrN (Note multiple images for some individuals which allows linking to the different interviews in which the individual was mentioned).

The person is listed as a P3342 significant person in the Qid for an interview – eg Charlotte Despard or Donald Munro-Ashman in the suffrage interview with Dorothy Adams about Anna Munro
