Georges became passionate about both the Old Masters that his father revered and the works of the more modern artistic movements such as Realism, Impressionism, Neo-Impressionism and the schools of the revolutionary avant-garde. Although Nathan looked at his son’s enthusiasm with something of a jaundiced eye, he allowed him to diverge into what were then emerging markets. For a time, Georges Wildenstein worked in partnership with another Parisian dealer, Paul Rosenberg, and together they had an exclusive contract with Pablo Picasso. (inglés)

Georges Wildenstein had fled to New York in 1941 and the following year he filed a lengthy claim with the American authorities which listed eight manuscripts (including the seven now disputed), although his descriptions were somewhat vague. After the war he pursued the matter vigorously and some of his manuscript claims are recorded in the published “List of property removed from France during the war” of 1947. Ultimately the seven manuscripts now in dispute were restored to Georges Wildenstein between 1949 and 1952. (inglés)
