English: Funerary stele of Adea and Thrãson: from left to right, Adea, daughter of Samos (seated on a stool); Thrãson, son of Dimnos (reclining on a couch); Adea, daughter of Archelaos (laying down a fruit on a the table); Thrāson, son of Archelaos (standing). In the background, two slaves. The stele could represent a couple and his grandchildren (children used to bear the name of their grandparents). Marble, ca. 100-90 BC. From Edessa, Macedonia.
Français : Stèle funéraire d'Adéa et Trâson : de gauche à droite, Adéa, fille de Samos (assise sur un tabouret) ; Thrâson, fils de Dimos (allongé sur une banquette) ; Adéa, fille d'Archélaos (posant un fruit sur la table); Thrâson, fils d'Archélaos (debout). En arrière-plan, deux esclaves. La stèle représente probablement un couple et ses petits-enfants : la tradition était de donner aux enfants le nom de leurs grands-parents. Marbre, vers 100-90 av. J.-C. Provenance : Édessa, Macédoine.
