The "right hand" is a standard Biblical phrase for God's power and guidance.
The dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, because that is the form in which He appeared during Jesus' baptism in the Jordan river.
Angel wings interspersed with trumpets represent both the heavenly hosts and an attitude of joy and majesty. The trumpet plays an important symbol in the Bible, announcing the presence of God.
Flames represent God as He passed the Ten Commandments to Moses on Mount Sinai.
Abraham is an Old Testament saint associated with Christ's priesthood and sacrifice. Abraham is shown here halted by an angel while Abraham is in the midst of sacrificing his son, Issac, to God. Such total surrender is at the heart of Jesus' priesthood.
The tablets, shown with Mount Sinai in the background, represent covenants made in the Old Testament.
Melchisedech is an Old Testament figure associated with Christ's priesthood and sacrifice. Jesus' eternal priesthood is said to be "according to the order of Melchisedech" (Ps. 110). Melchisedech is holding the Eucharistic cup.
The text reads: YOU ARE COME TO MOUNT SION TO THE CITY OF THE LIVING GOD THE HEAVENLY JERUSALEM AND TO THE COMPANY OF MANY THOUSANDS
The text, as well as the rest of the mosaic, is based on Hebrews 12:22-24. The Letter to the Hebrews is often called the "Theology of the Precious Blood" and holds special significance to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, who built this chapel.
This is the chapel's tabernacle. A tabernacle is a vessel for reserving the Eucharist, elements of bread that Catholics believe have been transubstantiated into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ.
The gold tones are meant to mirror God's glory.
