Description

Sitter is possibly the mother of the wife of Jean Appelman, who had the same maiden name. Her daughter died in 1643. Considering the widow's cap, she possibly also outlived her husband and raised her grandson, future mayor of Amsterdam. This painting has the same measurements as File:Jan Victors - Portrait of Jean Appelman.jpg, painted a few years later.
