Här ser vi Södra stadshuset från nordväst. Det är vinter, ett tjockt lager nysnö ligger på taken. Trottoarer och gator har ännu inte blivit moddiga. Götgatan ser ut att vara riktigt lugna gatan, men bara ett kvarter bort längs Hornsgatan gick sedan ett år tillbaka ångspårvagnen.

Henry Reuterdahl är en svensk-amerikansk konstnär som utbildade sig i Stockholm men utvandrade till Amerika 1893. Där fick han arbete som tidningstecknare i en illustrerad tidning i Chicago. Senare följde han med som tecknare i amerikanska flottan för tidskriften Harpers Weekly och avancerade även till sjökapten. Han utvecklades till en uppskattad och prisbelönt marinmålare.

Målningen förvärvades 1931. Köpet omfattade totalt 493 akvareller till ett värde av 6000 kr.
