Motivation[edit]
Necessary in order to describe in detail this material charachteristic of an inscription, i.e. the height of the inscribed letters; the datum is present in some relevant databases, such as Epigraphic Database Roma (Q124541686). --Epìdosis 19:13, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

- Comment @Epìdosis: I rarely get to play with quantity datatype, but its definition state that upper and lower bounds could be specified directly. Would that work for the third example? I don't like that it stays at somevalue, on the other hand I'm not sure that something like 4,2±0,8 really conveys the idea. --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 18:33, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Jahl de Vautban: thanks for the question. I also don't like using somevalue with qualifiers, ideally the interval should be the main value. I'm unsure using the uncertainty like 4,2±0,8 is the best option, as you say, because it seems to convey a slightly different concept, i.e. that instruments do not allow to state the 1 correct value with exact precision (whilst, usually, the interval has a different explanations: in different parts of the inscriptions the letters have just different heights). So, excluding the use of uncertainty, I'm not sure if the use of somevalue + qualifiers is effectively the best option ... if something is better, I would be glad to adopt it.
