Lighthouse Directory page[edit]
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Transportation
Description | The Lighthouse Directory (Q23581832) curated by Russ Rowlett (Q102167109) is considered to be a comprehensive and semi-reliable source for most lighthouses in the world. The lighthouses are grouped on different pages by geographic region and it would be very helpful to have the suffix of this page to allow easy referencing to this resource. Unfortunately this is not a unique identifier, but useful nonetheless. |

Discussion[edit]
- Support Looks like a nice resource, with information and pictures. And I don't think it's a problem to have IDs that basically points to pages covering the lighthouses available within a larger geographic area. The data type should probably be an external identifier though. Infrastruktur (talk) 17:02, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- I thought they were specifically for unique identifiers? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:52, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
- Good question, I'm honestly not sure. I know items can have more than one ID, but that is different from one ID covering many items. Will formatters still work with strings though? Edit: I checked, you can use formatter urls on strings but they don't automatically show up as clickable links on Wikidata. Infrastruktur (talk) 18:30, 3 December 2022 (UTC)

- I linked the example cases - however, this definitely should be a string id, not an external id, unless it is being used to identify the larger geographical area and not specific lighthouses. Having many different items with the same external id value is very bad - most inferences based on id matches will be wrong. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:43, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
