WikiCite session - Wikidata Eighth Birthday/24-hours meetup

Hi Liam,

I put in a session to discuss WikiCite during the 24 hour meetup for Wikidata's birthday. It is scheduled for 20:00 UTC on 28th October (see https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday/24-hours_meetup), which I believe will be a (fairly) reasonable time to attend for people in many locations worldwide.

You are welcome to be a co-facilitator or if you'd rather run the session yourself I will step aside.

All the best, Simon

Hi @Sic19, I'm as enthusiastic as anyone that WikiCite could be a topic of general discussion, but I wonder if you had noticed that we're already planning a multi-day event leading up that meetup. See Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday. I fear people might be 'over it' by that point? What was it that you would hope people specifically talk about, or that you wanted to specifically discuss during the hour you propose - perhaps that could instead be incorporated into the eConference. Actually, I'll be making a call for 'hosts' of segments of that conference (i'm looking to have 'blocks' of time about 3-4 hours, each hosted by different people - at a time, language, and sub-topic related to citations of their choosing.) Perhaps you might like to be one of those hosts, or at least a presenter. Or perhaps you'd even like to coordinate a block of time for the conference in Welsh?

Hi Liam,

Thanks, no the meetup wasn't on my radar at all. Completely agree that the session is unnecessary post WikiCite event and have changed it to a general, non-Wikicite discussion.

The topic I would like to discuss is author items and I'd gladly host a session on it. My particular interest is how we can work towards automated solution for the creation of good quality items to represent the authors of all the works we have created, specifically using ORCID source data. I've have worked extensively on the addition of employer and/or educated at claims to sparse author items for about two years and developed an understanding of the challenges that need to be resolved. This work has always (when done correctly) been well received by the community and it is a necessary component in the process of matching authors to their papers. However, I am reaching the limit of what I can do alone, thus a collaborative approach is now required. I'm definitely up for presenting on the current situation and potential next steps. Ideally that would be combined with other contributions relating to author items and some activity/workshop time.

If that sounds like a viable segment and/or presentation let me know and we can get it arranged. Can set up a call if you want to discuss?

I'm not a Welsh speaker so I'll have to pass on the opportunity to coordinate a Welsh-language session. @Jason.nlw might be up for it?

that certainly sounds like a viable session! I'm trying to get all my ducks in order to make a call for pairs of 'hosts' to organise sessions throughout the three day period. Each of those would then be picking a timeslot, language, and subject-area to focus on in their session - and then be inviting/requesting people to present (live or pre-recorded) in it.
