Missing constraints?[edit]
Notified participants of WikiProject property constraints
Surely this property must have some additional constraints on its usage? Firstly, I assume a historic county inherently no longer exists thus any value used requires an end date. Working from the premise that the county no longer exists, the item must have existed during the same period as the county for the claim to be valid and a temporal constraint is therefore required.
I would be grateful if someone with experience of modelling constraints would review this property and it usage as I am concerned it is being used too broadly for its stated purpose but this is not picked up by the existing constraints. Lookup tool[edit]
https://wikishire.co.uk/lookup/ is a useful tool that returns historic county given postcode, lat, long and grid references. It will accept and produce csv files Vicarage (talk) 06:59, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Extend scope beyond Britain[edit]
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Database_reports/Constraint_violations/P7959 reports people using it for Slovakian counties. They seem equivalent to British ones as historical artefacts. I think this property should be broadened for all defunct counties worldwide to allow this usage. Vicarage (talk) 10:52, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Also for Roman provinces in Spain for Iruña-Veleia (Q796596). There are dubious uses though, like the Kingdoms, German Reich for Geismannsaal (Q1431243) Vicarage (talk) 11:01, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed. This property needs to have its scope extended. It is highly relevant to Norway which recently had a reform on counties and municipalities. Infrastruktur (talk) 21:09, 9 December 2022 (UTC)
