What's the domain ?[edit]

@Blackcat, Pintoch: I have two questions: A) what's the difference with sponsor (P859) ? should this new replace P859 when is related with sportif material?. May exist both of them in an item? B) It seems created for clubs/teams. However, may it be used in sportperson ?. For instance, in not team sports, like tennis or golf players, who have material sponsors and are not a club.

Thanks, Amadalvarez (talk) 18:48, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Amadalvarez: hi! I only created this property administratively speaking, so I am not the best person to ask. But IMHO: sponsor (P859) can be used for any organization supporting the team, kit supplier (P5995) is more specific in that it focuses on donation of equipment. So both may exist on the same item, I would say. No opposition from me about broadening the scope to sportspeople. − Pintoch (talk) 08:54, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pintoch: Thank you for the answer. I have no specific problem, the general concept is understood. However, I prefer a clear definition to avoid future errors of interpretation between publishers. For example: it is not clear how to act when the organization that is giving the material should (or should not) also appear in P859. Both ways have reasons to argue, but we should choose one of the two criteria to avoid mixing apples with oranges. As for using it also for a person, I understand that the lack of a specific domain allows it. But the description speaks of the "clubs". Again, the description generates confusion. You know very well the bitter discussions when two (or more) people start an edition war for a double interpretation about the use. I propose to wait for the opinion of the proponent of the property to try to adjust the description without ambiguities. Thanks !Amadalvarez (talk) 09:57, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Amadalvarez, Pintoch:. Indeed, kit supplier (P5995) was created to indicate the kit supplier to the club or national team. sponsor (P859) indicates a club's main sponsor (usually the main name on the jerseys). -- Blackcat (talk) 18:39, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Blackcat, Pintoch: Thanks for your answer. It reaffirmes the main description but does not solve any of my doubts. Could you please try to expand your response with the situations I asked?. Summarizing:
  1. when the "kit supplier" is also a sponsor, because it donate the material, should it be in P859, too ?
  2. must P5995 be used in sport person ?, for instance in any "non team" sports (tennis, golf, )
  3. should we use P5995 in motor sport ?. In this case, the "kit supplier" is the same as the "motor team".
Finally, I have no doubt this is a necessary property. However, their meaning boundaries may overlap with a prexistent P859. Therefore, it is very important to explain their scope as much as possible to avoid missunderstanding. Thanks, Amadalvarez (talk) 19:09, 25 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Subclass of Supplier?[edit]

I have a question: should not this be a subclass of the more general "Supplier". I am looking for a property that would allow me to express "Company A" "Supplies" "Company B", but I do not seems to be able to find it. Any thoughts? Andreacortis (talk) 20:57, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
