Incorrect linkage[edit]

WikiProject Taxonomy has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. Please note that for some considerable time, the linking from this this identifier no longer takes users to PlantNet NSW but to an apparent archive link. The links in wikidata and from the taxonbar no longer take one to plantNet. Hope this can fixed soon... MargaretRDonald (talk) 04:39, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • @MargaretRDonald: I found the problem that led me to incorrectly think that plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au was dead/offline.
    dig @1.1.1.1 plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au

(via CloudFlare DNS) returns no domain name however
    dig @8.8.8.8 plantnet.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au

(via Google DNS) returns 141.243.20.114 and therefore allows a browser to establish a connection to the PlantNET website. It appears that the NSW environment department load balancers agslb.environment.nsw.gov.au and bgslb.environment.nsw.gov.au may be blocking DNS queries from CloudFlare. Perhaps the blocking is occurring due to an outdated bogon filter that hasn't be updated to reflect 1.0.0.0/8 being assigned to APNIC back in 2010 reference. I've e-mailed web.support@environment.nsw.gov.au and flora@rbgsyd.gov.au advising of this discussion thread and the possible problem with users of CloudFlare DNS being prevented from accessing PlantNET. --Dhx1 (talk) 12:39, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • I didn't send an e-mail as it remains unclear to me what condition reproduces the problem. A check of [1] shows that
    dig A +additional +trace plantnet.egslb.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au. @1.1.1.1

when executed by digwebinterface.com is returning the expected IP address of 141.243.20.114. I am using DNS-over-HTTPS and DNS-over-TLS on two separate ISP networks and neither are working, so perhaps it is the CloudFlare resolvers that handle DNS-over-HTTPS/DNS-over-TLS queries that are being blocked, but not CloudFlare resolvers that handle unencrypted DNS queries? --Dhx1 (talk) 13:46, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhx1:The PlantNEt website is active and I can't shed any light on your problem. But I am hoping that now Tom.Reding has returned the taxonbar & wikidata to their previous functionality all will remain well.Almost every plant in NSW for which there is an enwiki article uses the taxonbar link. So it is great to have it working again. MargaretRDonald (talk)
