Motivation[edit]

Dhliz is a comprehensive Arabic movie database with accurate and detailed information about thousands of Arabic movies and TV shows, and over 20,000 industry professionals. As of April 2024, Dhliz has over 1000 links from Wikipedia articles covering movies, TV shows, cast and crew members, and poster images.

Discussion[edit]

Oppose Please expand Dhliz person ID (Property:P12696). Example: IMDb ID (P345). @Back ache, ZI Jony: FYI. --Kolja21 (talk) 13:18, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not 100% sure I understand, but I added Dhliz ID (P12696) to the "see also" section above and replaced the proposal with the new property in the "motivation". Is this what you are referring to? Dhlizcom (talk) 17:58, 4 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. We just need one property. There is no need for IMDb person ID, IMDb film ID etc. --Kolja21 (talk) 00:52, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
BTW: Dhliz film ID (Q125765101) and Dhliz TV series ID (Q125765106) can be deleted. There is only one Dhliz database = one item = Dhliz (Q125594802): arts database serving the Arab world. --Kolja21 (talk) 01:04, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks for clarifying! I was under the impression that because each of person/film/TV series/film character/etc represents a different entity type, and more importantly has a different URL pattern on Dhliz website (/artist/.., /film/..., etc), each needs to go into a separate property. But looking at IMDB ID I see this appears to be doable using a single property, so I will take a look make the change you proposed.
Question: since Dhliz person ID (Property:P12696) has been created already, is it possible to edit the previous proposal at this point or should I create a new one?
Thanks again! Dhlizcom (talk) 10:10, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like IMDb ID (P345) identifiers contain a 2-letter prefix (e.g., tt, nm) that allows for applying the right formatter URL using regex. This is not the case with Dhliz IDs which contains alphanumeric strings without any component to describe the type of the item (person example: adel_imam, film example: ibn_7amido). Dhliz ID is somewhat similar to the case of elCinema person ID (P3136) and elCinema film ID (P3135), both of which are numeric IDs without special components and so there are two separate properties for elCinema persons and films. Another similar example is OMDB, which has both Open Media Database person ID (P5534) and Open Media Database film ID (P3302). Can you please advise on the best way to proceed? @Kolja21 @ZI Jony please advise, thanks. Dhlizcom (talk) 08:05, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There are only 12 persons linked to Dhliz ID (P12696), so it should be no problem to change the name to "Dhliz ID" and expand its meaning. --Kolja21 (talk) 12:29, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhlizcom:, if you agreed with @Kolja21:, I'll merge all three in one ID. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 15:06, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ZI Jony If you can merge all three this would be much appreciated, thank you for offering to help! I am still not sure how this will work though. We need to use https://dhliz.com/artist/$1/ for people, https://dhliz.com/film/$1/ for films, and https://dhliz.com/series/$1/ for TV series, and all these identifiers look the same (alphanumeric strings). How can the property construct Dhliz URLs correctly for each type in the absence of a pattern or regex to differentiate between identifiers of different types? Regards, Dhlizcom (talk) 20:44, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Dhlizcom: please see PitchBook profile ID (P12689), it will be similar. Is it ok for you? Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 08:19, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ZI Jony I see, thanks. So IIUC the ID will include part of the Dhliz URL path which identifies the type of the item. If you think this is the preferred way of representing the identifiers in Wikidata instead of using multiple properties I am OK with that, and would greatly appreciate your help in doing the merge or providing me with guidance about doing that myself.
