The zika corpus has become a canonical example for describing the function and usefulness of Wikidata.

Here is a December 2018 presentation slide demoing the zika corpus

Notified participants of WikiProject Zika Corpus

Hello, Given the efficiency and success of the WikiProject Zika Corpus, I wonder if we shouldn't create a Covid19 corpus to gather the information around coronavirus. It is going to be around at least for a few months and I think Wikidata can help to organize the information around that.

What do you think? TiagoLubiana (talk) 11:38, 13 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TiagoLubiana: It is a good idea. Starting the WikiProject is easy and could happen in an hour, but to make it meaningful, it is ideal for a few people to plan to collaborate at least to post thoughts and reflections on a talk page. Telling the story of why we do a thing is as important as the curation of the content. @Daniel Mietchen: has already tagged many articles about COVID-19, so the curation is off to a good start. How can I help you get started contributing? Common ways to contribute are author disambiguation and applying main subject labels to research papers. Also there is a great need for general documentation in many places to explain what Wikidata can do and how it impacts the public discourse. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:21, 14 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Bluerasberry: Good to know that @Daniel Mietchen: is already working on the subject. For example, a list of COVID19 related articles in Wikidata (with respective states of completion) would be a great start! But mostly I would like to get together with other editors and organize efforts to curate and organize pages such as COVID-19 pandemic in Spain (Q84166704) and make sure they are reliable and referenced. Get to talk also about data models most suitable for this class of page. And at the same time, direct some efforts towards thinking about how this info can help public awareness. Maybe even some automated mBabel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Mbabel) models for pages about outbreaks in different languages. I think the wiki project could fulfill some of these, and put people together, but I would love to do it in a collaborative way so, as you said, it can become meaningful. Any tips on how to "hot start" this Wikiproject? Thanks! TiagoLubiana (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
