Next issue on October 4th[edit]

Hello all,

Just to let you know that because of the holiday, this week's issue of the newsletter will be published on Tuesday, October 4th. -Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 14:43, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Analysis of the Wikidata data[edit]

Hi, Earlier this week I posted on the mailing list an extensive analysis of the data in Wikidata to be able to know where things can use more attention and work to get higher quality. The thread can be found here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/hyperkitty/list/wikidata@lists.wikimedia.org/thread/QNOSK7Z6VN7SBUV42A26IQZ4U72LFEAQ/ It is a bit long but I think it can be useful for the newsletter to be included. If needed, I can also post an on-wiki version of it. Romaine (talk) 10:35, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's a great idea, I added it to today's issue! Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 10:08, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What changes would you like to see in the newsletter in 2023[edit]

Descriptions for new properties and new property proposals[edit]

currently it is like this:

‎MyAnimeList magazine ID, ‎Online Torwali Dictionary ID, ‎Google Product Taxonomy ID, ‎IRIS UNIBA author ID, ‎IRIS UNIFG author ID, ‎IRIS LUM author ID, ‎IRIS UNISALENTO author ID, ‎tuxDB game ID, ‎GCD issue ID, ‎Geograph Deutschland image ID, ‎ResearchGate journal ID, ‎Lygaeoidea Species File ID, ‎Beatport release ID, ‎Diskograf song ID, ‎Diskograf label ID, ‎INKR title ID, ‎BRUZZ topic ID, ‎negates property, ‎Kanjipedia kanji ID

This is hard to read and gives little context. I think better would be:

‎MyAnimeList magazine ID
Identifier for a manga magazine on MyAnimeList
‎Online Torwali Dictionary ID
identifier for a word or phrase in the CLE Online Torwali Dictionary
‎Google Product Taxonomy ID
ID for the product related to this concept on the Google Product Taxonomy

Support Yes please! PKM (talk) 00:15, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Shisma, NMaia, Jsamwrites, PKM, Mohammed Sadat (WMDE):: there is a demo at User:MisterSynergy/test2 how this would have looked like on today's newsletter. It would be ready to be included in Deltabot's daily additions of new properties and open proposals. Opinions? —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:56, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I like it! PKM (talk) 01:33, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The demo looks good. John Samuel (talk) 07:12, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would have liked to avoid having a separate line for each property and instead put the description in brackets, as having many lines for each property would make the weekly summary too long. However, I am willing to stick with the demo format if others find it satisfactory :) Let's wait a few more days to see if anyone else has an opinion on the matter. -Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 10:17, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is now a second format proposal on User:MisterSynergy/test2 so you can directly compare both. —MisterSynergy (talk) 10:33, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Taking into consideration the comment by @Mohammed Sadat (WMDE), I feel that the second version is much better and it will take less space. John Samuel (talk) 10:47, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do we really want have bold labels, or would regular font weight suffice? I am kinda sceptical about the change, but if it resonates with you all, I'd implement it.)MisterSynergy (talk) 10:54, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Regular font is fine. Let's give it a try. If the status page becomes too cluttered or too big, we can go back to the initial version. John Samuel (talk) 12:43, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, Deltabot now uses the new formatting (without bold text). Since there are no new properties or proposals with non-external-id datatype since the last newsletter yet, the effect cannot be seen at this point. Let’s observe whether it works as desired in the next days—otherwise don’t hesitate to ping me. —MisterSynergy (talk) 22:24, 14 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Less indentation more headline levels[edit]

the indentation of this week's status update goes four levels deep. That's really hard to to read on a phone because half the screen is indentation only. Instead I would recommend to use headlines for structure – Shisma (talk) 17:13, 27 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Possibly noteworthy for a status update?[edit]

New distributed game[edit]

Not sure where it would fit in, but I've set up a new Distributed Game to add links to Wikiquote to Wikidata. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 15:14, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
