up-to-date?[edit]

Interresting. It seems to have been updated recently (yesterday), but data are already obsolete: for example for P121 it should be something like 10, and the figure in the array is 2. When did the script run ?
--Gloumouth1 (talk) 16:25, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, It is now up-to-date. --Gloumouth1 (talk) 08:45, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The "data as of" is when the data is from. It may be delayed due to replication lag. Legoktm (talk) 19:07, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

ID[edit]

Please, is possible to add ID column for sorting from P1 to P123? JAn Dudík (talk) 20:46, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I actually didn't have this page on my watchlist. Sure. Do you want this as a separate column or should I make this the sort value of the current property name/id column? Legoktm (talk) 19:11, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
MAybe would be better separate column. For some properties I did't know actual english name, but I can know numeric value. JAn Dudík (talk) 21:17, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Add more properties[edit]

How to add more properties? I'd like to add "music genre", "album type" (best of, album, single, EP, ...", "producer", "artist", "tracklist", "last album", "next album", "release date", ... --★ → Airon 90 10:30, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can add new properties here: Special:NewProperty. But don't add any new properties before discussing here: Wikidata:Property proposal. And every propertis can't be add yet, because here is currently only two different datatypes. --Stryn (talk) 10:33, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

remove english text[edit]

please remove english text to see localized label (like Property:P107 not entity type ) because if some of them didn't translate. we can translate their label. Reza1615 (talk) 10:18, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way it will auto localize the label? With [[Property:P107]] all I see is "Property:P107". Legoktm (talk) 19:36, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
we have a bug in the bugzilla for this issue but if they didn't solve it we can make a JS tool which can do it.▬ Reza1615 / T 09:11, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here it is: PropertyNames.js (for me it's working well on Contributions, Watchlist, diffs, and histories). Should it search for unlocalized labels also in normal pages? Try it and comment. --Ricordisamoa 11:03, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I it can support all namespaces it will be great▬ Reza1615 / T

Two little improvement wishes[edit]

Hi, I have 2 suggestions:

  • Link the number of uses to Special:WhatLinksHere/Property:PXXX
  • add a column "type of the property".

Thanks, -- MichaelSchoenitzer (talk) 23:29, 6 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another suggestion: add a column for the diff with the previous count. --Gloumouth1 (talk) 10:48, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Another list of properties[edit]

At User:Byrial/Property statistics you can see a table with all properties with separate sortable columns for usage in claims, qualifiers, sources and more. The caveat is that it is only updated when new complete database dumps are available about once or twice per month, while the less nuanced statistics on this page is updated daily. Byrial (talk) 11:58, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful. --Gloumouth1 (talk) 13:07, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Property labels[edit]

Hi, thank you for the report. Could you please replace English to current language in labels: [[Property:P31|instance of]] (P31) → {{P|31}}. — Ivan A. Krestinin (talk) 02:20, 25 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New name[edit]

I propose to move this page. The listed properties are not necessaryly popular. They are used in many statements which is not the same. Byrial (talk) 14:48, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What does the numbers mean?[edit]

Please define how these numbers are calculated. It is not just how many times the properties are used. imported from Wikimedia project (P143) have approx. 13 millions uses, instead of the 4,1 million listed here. Byrial (talk) 14:54, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I would really like some explanation of how the numbers are generated, especially if this is the number of occurrences without respect to how often they are used in an item or if the numbers are how many items have those properties. In the last case I would like the numbers normalized over how many items there are, while in the first case I would like to have stats for mean and variance for those items where the properties are present. Jeblad (talk) 13:29, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Add column for data type[edit]

Could a column "data type" be added? Sorting by that column would let users separate identifiers, which usually have "Data type=String", from other properties. Tamawashi (talk) 10:52, 10 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of open requests[edit]

  1. add ID column for sorting from P1 to P123 - 19 February 2013
  2. Link the number of uses to Special:WhatLinksHere/Property:PXXX - 6 March 2013
  3. add a column for the diff with the previous count - 6 May 2013
  4. new name ("popular" is a misnomer) - 21 August 2013
  5. explanation how the count is calculated - 21 August 2013 + 7 September 2014
  6. more data (full request above, looks complicated) - 7 September 2014
  7. a column "data type" - 10 July 2014

Could User:Pasleim fulfill some of the requests? Andrea Shan (talk) 04:39, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  1. sorting by ID makes only sense if all properties are listed, so use for this feature a complete list, e.g. this one
  2. I will do it
  3. don't know if this is useful as the table gets updated daily. But I will try to create a graphic where one can see the evolution of a property.
  4. any suggestions for a new name?
  5. the count is calculated by the number of pages in namespace 0 with a link to the property. For details, see configuration
  6. I can't do that as I don't analyze database dumps
  7. again use a complete property list
--Pasleim (talk) 09:58, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pasleim - thanks a lot for the detailed response.
  1. This is already useful if there is no complete list - then one can sort the table data by "property ID" and see which late or early-created property is in the top 100. User:Pasleim/List of properties does not offer language-neutral property names, so for speakers with limited knowledge of English it is not as usable as the Top100 list.
  2. Thank you for the implementation.
  3. OK.
  4. Wikidata:Database reports/List of properties/Top100
  5. I updated the report page to shows this.
  6. OK.
  7. This is already useful if there is no complete list - then one can sort in the table by "data type, quantity of item pages" and can see the top string-type (many IDs here), or item-type properties. Anyone can see which types are in the top 100 and how many for each. User:Pasleim/List of properties does not offer language-neutral property names, so for speakers with limited knowledge of English it is not as usable as the Top100 list.
Regarding #1 and #7 - apart from labels depending on the language-settings of the user, the top 100 does not show the little used properties, i.e. gives a faster overview of the situation. It would be an easy step to give the non-English natives access to what you have deemed relevant at your own User:Pasleim/List of properties - the data type and a sorting by property ID number. Andrea Shan (talk) 20:10, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Plese note that User:Pasleim/List of properties is available not only in English. And I can add more languages by request. --Pasleim (talk) 20:22, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pasleim - people interested in that information may not always file requests if they don't find some information. They may simply walk away. The location of the list is quite obscure, outside the Wikidata:Database reports space. A little change, namely adding two columns to Top100 would present some information, that you think yourself is relevant on your user-space lists, to many more readers and editors. Help me, help them. Andrea Shan (talk) 21:02, 18 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can move my property list to the Wikidata:Database reports space if this would help. But adding more columns to the Top100 list makes it only confusing and more information are not always desirable, especially not for a ranking list. --Pasleim (talk) 12:52, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Pasleim, how can that be, that a list that contains all properties can have eight fields, (confusingly?) mixed into six columns, and be OK to reside in the DBR space, while for a list of 100 properties you deem four fields in four columns to be "only confusing" and claim "more information are not always desirable"? Nobody claimed that more is always desirable, but more information has been desired by several users on this page. Andrea Shan (talk) 11:23, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

User:Pasleim - you offered to move your list into the DBR namespace, could you move it to Wikidata:Database reports/List of properties/all? The other two are broken:

A list in DBR namespace, bot maintained, could be used as a page to get an overview, where the two others fail. Andrea Shan (talk) 21:39, 28 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I will move it in the next few days. At the moment I'm struggling with my sql reqeuests and I will also try to find a way to make the header of the table translatable. --Pasleim (talk) 20:02, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikidata:Database_reports/List_of_properties/all is now a redirect to your page, so people have more chance to find it. I added that redirecting page to some places. If you are ready, then it is already linked a bit. Andrea Shan (talk) 10:07, 1 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Graph[edit]

Hello, would it be possible to build automatically a graph of the evolution of some popular properties such as instance of (P31)? --Gloumouth1 (talk) 10:25, 23 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Update[edit]

@Pasleim: The page hasn't been updated in the last months. Will it be updated in the future? Thank you, --Epìdosis 11:03, 16 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It is unlikely that this page will be updated in the near future. I would need to run much longer SQL queries on Toolforge but it doesn seem that Wikimedia is investing a lot in the Toolforge infrastructure. --Pasleim (talk) 18:02, 17 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Epìdosis, Pasleim: Isn't there a work around?

  • Property talk:P7902, property documentation: Current uses 481,978 out of 791,875 (61% complete)

If someone can collect these infos for a weekly Top100 update it would be fine. --Kolja21 (talk) 09:53, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Numbers and explanation[edit]

A list of the top 100 properties by quantity of item pages that link to them. Data as of 2022-08-27 17:27 (UTC).

@pasleim: "286207674" - but at Special:Statistics "Content pages 99,035,137" - wherefrom are your numbers? 89.14.54.216 17:48, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
