Project description[edit]

The research activities of WikiProject Ethnomusicological descriptors - University of Turin (Q120325256) are part of a PRIN project (Projects of Relevant National Interest) on knowledge representation systems in the ethnomusicological domain and the creation of a domain ontology. The activity of data curation deals with specific terms, available or missing on wikidata, generally used in international analytical-scientific practice for the description of repertoires, artifacts, genres, musical instruments and sound objects.

  • Musical instruments;
  • Published materials (book materials and non-book materials) in any format and medium;
  • Description of field research campaigns (dates, geographical locations, agents);
  • Support description of agents (individuals, families, institutions);
  • Specific descriptors pertinent to the ethnomusicological domain, affecting each type of resource so far listed allow its catalographic description or annotation, i.e:
    • (a) Information on anthrotoponyms (ethnic groups, demonyms, nationalities, geo-cultural areas);
    • (b) Information related to musical phenomena (scales, modes, local names of voices, musical genres, vocal or instrumental ensembles, etc.);
    • (c) Information related to choreographic phenomena (local names of dances, choreographic elements that make up a dance, etc.);
    • (d) Information about objects and paraphernalia that are part of the ritual or that are utensils in some way related to musical practices or knowledge.
