Task/s: update Wikidata:Main Page/Popular daily
Code: at Github; runs on Toolforge in the msynbot tool account
Function details: Wikidata:Main Page/Popular has been updated by User:Pasleim's Deltabot, but since this bot broke recently (for the second time) and Pasleim is pretty inactive, I have set up a replacement bot to update the popular item page that is highly visible as a transcluded section on Wikidata:Main Page. My source code is basically a rewritten (highly modified/modernized) version of Pasleim's script that implements the same logic for item selection.
Sample edits are at the page history, starting on 21 October 2022. I will continue to run this bot during this approval process since there is really not much do discuss about it, but given that the bot edits outside of my userspace, I think it is appropriate to have this task formally approved as well.
In case Pasleim returns, I will coordinate with him which bot will continue to update the popular item page. —MisterSynergy (talk) 10:27, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
Support It's an important page to keep up to date. A minor question @MisterSynergy:, would updating it more often (hourly?) make more sense than daily? Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 16:05, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Not really. The script includes items with most editors (some additional constraints apply) within the past 3 days. It does not change enough within each hour. —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:28, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
