Motivation[edit]

Since dance moves are sometimes/often shared between dances I would like a way to state that on the dance move. I could use aspect of, but this risks aspect of becoming a new conflated property like "of"

Currently some of the dance moves are "part of" a particular dance. I dont see how this could be reliably sourced as a dance is not always well defined. There is a lot of fusion between dances so it is quite difficult to say what is part and not part of a dance. It may vary geographically also.--So9q (talk) 02:08, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion[edit]

Comment Do you intend this property to be used outside of the domain of dance? - PKM (talk) 23:25, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Support even when it might make sense to have examples of other items. It might be good to use another word then practitioner in the description. ChristianKl18:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose First, the issue presented with using part of (P361) doesn't pan out: if a move isn't always part of a certain dance, then use qualifiers, e.g nature of statement (P5102)=often (Q28962312), valid in place (P3005)=[place where the move is used], start time (P580), etc. You would need the same qualifiers on the proposed property, so I don't see what improvement it offers over part of (P361). Secondly, the proposal is incredibly broad: "item used by practitioner of another item" could cover almost anything, but the examples and motivation are just about dance. If this is supposed to be used just for dance moves, the proposal needs to be rewritten as such. Otherwise, there needs to be a much broader range of examples given, and more importantly, the limits of the property scope need to be identified. I suspect that a broad "used by practitioners of" property would step on the toes of several existing properties, creating questions about which property should be used when.
