This could help us keep a controlled vocabulary of main subjects in Wikidata for the imported datasets like the 2 in the examples above--So9q (talk) 09:28, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

- Currently that is 8078 items, but I'm not sure how that is a meaningful subset and why we'd need the statement in addition to the query. --- Jura 10:19, 16 September 2021 (UTC)
- Exactly like Jan puts it, was the idea. So the idea is to have a sort of controlled vocabulary of items that are used as main subject. I'm not sure myself if this is needed, but if we want a controlled vocabulary, it is one way to do it. To be honest, the query from Jura is enough for me personally. If we ever get the scientific community engaged on Wikidata it might make more sense to have some sort of agreements of what constitutes a valid subject and what does not.--So9q (talk) 15:26, 17 September 2021 (UTC)

Oppose I don't think this is scoped properly. "main subject for" (or "main subject of") would logically be the inverse relationship of "main subject". That does not need to have a property, it could simply have an inverse label item created. In an item for any given subject, I don't think we want to specify every work that is about that subject. Comment Actually, I just discovered that main subject of (Q70782961) already exists. You can see it in action by choosing a subject item and clicking on "show derived statements" at the bottom of the page. For examples, view rainforest ecology (Q105441712) or Nancy (Q2373170), then click "show derived statements" at the bottom of the page. If you don't see the link, you can go into your user preferences and in gadgets, click the box for "relateditems: Adds a button to the bottom of item pages to display inverse statements." UWashPrincipalCataloger (talk) 18:03, 17 September 2021 (UTC)- Comment I suppose it could work out to design a suggestor for values to use in preference with main subject (P921).
However, the domain of all scholarly articles in Wikidata (Q108560274) might be too large for this, maybe for open data of Riksdagen (Q108560253) is possible. --- Jura 14:57, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
