Motivation

Create a property similar to Property:P8711 (Wikidata:Property proposal/Emojipedia ID), Property:P5467, Property:P6262 and Property:P8885 for characters on Wiktionary. Wiktionary doesn't have a page for all emojis. For example wikt:en:🔥 exists but wikt:en:🔦 does not. With a property it can be determined whether Wiktionary has a page for the character. This can be useful for Wikimedia templates and for third-party sites who query Wikidata to find links with more information. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 20:40, 20 November 2023 (UTC)

• Maculosae tegmine lyncis, for example Q87581001 has a link to https://emojipedia.org/fire and various other sites but not wikt:en:🔥. There's no obvious way to query mw:Extension:Cognate and given the format of all other sites I'd argue it makes more sense to treat Wiktionary the same way.
  Also see w:en:User:Alexis Jazz/Emoji. Despite being a late addition to w:en:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)#RfC about the criteria for existence of emoji redirects (2nd) (demo) it's already tied for second place and only 2 votes behind the current leader. The template currently uses a parameter to determine whether or not to show the Wiktionary link, this is inconvenient maintenance-wise.

  Horcrux, I guess we can call the property "English Wiktionary ID" instead. Even English Wiktionary is currently far from complete in their emoji coverage, so I doubt properties for any other languages will be needed in the next decade. — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 08:34, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

•  Question Should this property only concern emojis? If yes, why the proposed name is "Wiktionary ID"?   Horcrux, the goal is to be able to include a link to English Wiktionary on emoji article titles on Wikipedia, in an automated fashion. The same list would contain links to Emojipedia and a few other sites. See 🔥 (revision 1188497486) for an example. (the example currently uses a local hardcoded list) Sitelinks can't be obtained through templates AFAIK.
  I have no preference for the property name, I only want to query it. I just followed the naming scheme from "Emojipedia ID", "GlyphWiki ID" and "Namuwiki ID". — Alexis Jazz (talk or ping me) 08:57, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

   Oppose I don't think creating such a property just to put a patch to a template on en.wiki would be a good idea. I don't like the fact that it is limited to a specific linguistic version and the fact that it could easily be avoided by using sitelinks. I would instead prefer to add an exception to Wikidata:Wiktionary/Sitelinks, since IMHO the objection «Q-items are about concepts and not words» doesn't always apply (as in this case). And yes, templates (via Lua) can definitely access to items' sitelinks (see en:Template:Sister project links for example). --Horcrux (talk) 21:16, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
