Motivation[edit]

This database is a valuable source of information on popular literature not just in Britain in the mid-nineteenth century, but also in France and in the United States since French romans-feuilletons were translated in penny weekly numbers in London while American fiction was reprinted. As with most popular literature, copies are rare. To obtain accurate bibliographic information, I consulted library catalogues to list all extent copies. This identifier could allow libraries to realize that they hold rare materials of which they were previously unaware.

There are also external identifiers for authors, publishers, works, and periodicals. Separate property proposals have been made for these other identifiers since the formatter URL is different. Marianika (talk) 16:09, 25 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
