Motivation[edit]

The Map of Early Modern London project contains an encyclopedia of entries for places, people, organisations, and works relevant to London in the late 1500s/early 1600s.

This is used to index/annotate the Woodcut (or "Agas") map of London (c. 1560s), Stow's Survey of London (1598), and other texts rich in London toponyms of the time. The project has been in constant development since the late 1990s, and is considered a leading example of a digital humanities project devoted to a particular place at a particular time.
