Motivation[edit]

The Maryland Plant Atlas (Q113634518) is the product of a partnership between between the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the University of Maryland's Norton-Brown Herbarium, and the Maryland Biodiversity Project, and "endeavors to provide authoritative distribution maps for all the native and naturalized plants of Maryland based on the best available data; to provide accurate and up-to-date information on the flora to the public; and to promote conservation and research by increasing awareness and appreciation for wild plants." It includes every species of vascular plant, bryophyte, and algae that is native or naturalized in Maryland. For each species, subspecies, or variety, Latin and common names are provided, along with classification, synonyms, distribution maps, images, and links to other resources.
