Motivation[edit]

Notified participants of WikiProject Italy As I said in Wikidata:Property proposal/IRIS SNS author ID, which was the first attempt to connect an open-access repository (Q7096323) to Wikidata, the open-access repositories of university are increasingly crucial for our coverage of contemporary academics: they help us solving complex cases of homonyms, mapping publications (not only books, which are present in OPACs, but also articles, conference proceedings, reviews etc.), eventually importing their metadata into Wikidata, and documenting the affiliations to research institutes. Ten days after the creation of IRIS SNS author ID (P9761), more than one fifth of its authors has been connected to Wikidata and the feedback I received from the office involved in the maintenance of the repository is excellent and will lead to further collaboration in the next months. Given the good result of the first experiment, I think we can go on with other Italian universities; I propose to start with the other two universities based in Pisa (Q13375), which provide some more thousands of IDs and have good synergies with the first imported repository; other repositories of Italian universities will gradually follow in the next weeks and months. --Epìdosis 22:10, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
