- Motivation
This public domain (CC0) wiki has become a pretty significant resource on file formats since its start in 2012. Currently not many Wikipedia articles link to this resource, but using Wikidata as an intermediary this can be solved. This would benefit readers of Wikipedia, who can find through Wikjdata (and maybe eventually using templates on Wikipedia itself) the more technical information contained in this wiki. This concerns for example information/links on the layout of file formats, tools to edit/recover them, history of different versions, etc. The File Format Wiki may be improved as well with automatic Wikipedia/... links.
The amount of links possible is very high. I'd wager there's at least an article about every file format item currently in Wikidata, with more possible. Adding this identifier may also be a first step towards adding more comprehensive file format data on Wikidata itself. This means we could store some structured information currently residing in the File Format(s) Wiki's infoboxes, e.g. the link from ANI to [1]. Azertus (talk) 12:40, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Support Wow, I had no idea there were so many bar code formats. This does seem like a useful resource. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:27, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
