The source file of the import is the pdf of the FAO report. The ids have been constructed by concatenating the first column (animal species name) with the column breed name, as is. There is a csv version of the file : http://pastebin.com/6BF5Aawg used to build the data imported in mix'n'match. The case should be ignored in the strings. The ":" character present in one of the breed name has been substituded with a "-". author  TomT0m / talk page

Motivation

This is necessary to do the mapping to exploit the datas of the report, which are to be used for FAO risk status (P2371) View with SQID and to store the mix'n'match mapping. author  TomT0m / talk page 19:04, 10 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

I don't understand, why we need this property. How will this data be used? Is this kind of identifier used outside this one specific report at all? --Srittau (talk) 20:16, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Srittau: : it's a periodic report, so the mapping could probably be reused in the future to reimport the datas in the future. The mapping is needed to import the datas, it's as simple as that. I think it's useful if not for any over reason for verifiability : how to verify the imported data is correct if there is no way to know where it is in the dataset ? It's not uncommon that an identifier is used only in one dataset, as any dataset needs an identifier and not all of ours have any over purpose than mapping. author  TomT0m / talk page 13:31, 15 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

 Comment @TomT0m: Can you check whether FAO actually has any kind of official identifiers? I know they publish a general agriculture vocabulary - AGROVOC - which we probably ought to link to from wikidata via the AGROVOC identifiers (like c_2356 = Domestic Animals). But that doesn't seem to include the detailed breed information you are looking for. Do they publish other vocabularies like this? At least AGROVOC seems to be kept up to date - is 2007 really the most recent FAO genetic resource report? ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:03, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ArthurPSmith: Could not find a digitalized dataset other than the pdf version, but I may have miss something. (Anyway, it would have been easier ;) )
Do you refering to breed (Q38829), TomT0m? --Succu (talk) 21:00, 22 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Succu: yep - the FAO version of a breed.
@TomT0m: this proposal has been sitting around a long time, can you respond to the comments please? Thanks! ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:51, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Not much to say, but done. Not really an emergency as I think the mapping work has not really been done - the dataset has been suggested by someone on frwiki and I imported it on mix'n'match as a showcase on what could be done with Wikidata but she had changed her mind on the opportunity to work on this - the mapping seem to be not so easy as the data is an aggregate of sometime not so clean datas from different local administration of countries in the word. Anyway the work is done and maybe someone will find interesting to have the FAO datas on Wikidata one day, so I don't withdraw this. author  TomT0m / talk page 15:06, 7 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@ArthurPSmith: Actually there is a digital database with URIs variyng through something that seem to be an ID : http://dad.fao.org/cgi-bin/EfabisWeb.cgi?sid=511b1b1e1f869a17a2b11f5e8b4cd8cf,reportsreport13_50000024 but it seem to be linked to a session ID :/ the 13_50000024 in the previous URL : http://dad.fao.org/cgi-bin/EfabisWeb.cgi?sid=511b1b1e1f869a17a2b11f5e8b4cd8cf,reportsreport8a_50000213 the 8a_50000213 is for "Australian Swamp Buffalo". The list of breeds is available here : http://dad.fao.org/cgi-bin/EfabisWeb.cgi?sid=511b1b1e1f869a17a2b11f5e8b4cd8cf,reportsreport16 and the HTML gives a usable mapping table : ... breeds[567]="50000035--50000490|Kiko / Goat";
    breeds[568]="50000045--50000639|Kladruby / Horse";
    breeds[569]="50000045--50000640|Knabstrupper / Horse";
    breeds[570]="50000078--50000727|Korhogo / Pig";
    breeds[571]="50000024--50000145|Kostroma / Cattle";
    breeds[572]="50000045--50000641|Koto-Koli Pony / Horse";
    breeds[573]="50000024--50000146|Kouprey / Cattle";
    breeds[574]="50000047--50000339|Kraienkoppe / Chicken";
    breeds[575]="50000047--50000340|Kraienkoppe Bantam / Chicken";
