Motivation[edit]
This is a newly released database hosted by the History of Parliament Trust, showing all peerages (barons, viscounts, earls, marquesses, dukes) created in the United Kingdom since about the middle of the seventeenth century. (It currently does not have older peerages or Scottish titles). All titles are listed along with their date of creation and the initial holder; in some cases (eg example #3) all holders are listed. (More holders may be added in future, along with older titles; see also Wikidata:Property proposal/Beamish peerages database person ID for an identifier for holders themselves.)
At the moment we don't really have much in the way of authority control for titles; we have entries on WP for most hereditary titles, but these often cover just the main title and not any subsidiaries, and often merge distinct titles with the same name together. So this is potentially quite useful, especially if we set up items to tease apart different titles.
As with the earlier Rush Parliamentary Archive ID (P4471), items can be backlinked to Wikidata and I expect that we will be able to get that in place once matching is underway. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:48, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
